US charges think tank founder with China lobbying

US authorities announced charges on Monday against Gal Luft, a US-Israeli analyst who has accused President Joe Biden’s son of corruption.

The federal prosecutors in New York charged Luft, who heads a think tank outside of Washington, D.C., with engaging in covert lobbying and arms dealing. The Justice Department stated that Luft was involved in “multiple serious criminal schemes.”

Luft had previously made allegations of corruption against the Biden family, and some Republican politicians claimed that the charges against Luft were an attempt to intimidate a key witness.

According to prosecutors, Luft violated US foreign agent registration laws in an effort to promote Chinese policies through a former high-ranking US government official.

Additionally, he acted as a broker in deals involving dangerous weapons and Iranian oil, and he provided false information about his crimes to law enforcement.

Although Luft was arrested in February in Cyprus on US charges, he managed to flee after being released on bail while awaiting extradition proceedings. Currently, he remains at large, and the Justice Department is seeking information regarding his whereabouts.

In a recent video published by the New York Post, Luft stated that he had provided evidence to the US Justice Department and FBI officials in 2019 regarding alleged financial transactions between the Biden family and the Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson accused the government of covering up this information and claimed that Luft had valuable information that was ignored by authorities.

As President Biden gears up for a potential second term in the 2024 election, Republicans in Congress accused the Biden family in May of profiting over $10 million from dealings with Chinese and Romanian firms.

However, they presented limited evidence to support these allegations. It is worth noting that these accusations are part of an ongoing campaign that has targeted Hunter Biden, the president’s son and the only surviving child from his first marriage.

Republicans claim that Hunter Biden leveraged his father’s influence during his tenure as vice president under Barack Obama to engage in questionable dealings in multiple countries.
