The Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress alliance is rekindling historical ties in Uttar Pradesh’s electoral battlegrounds of Amethi and Rae Bareli, invoking a fervent camaraderie among workers as they mobilize voters under the banner of the “INDIA bloc candidates.”

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s directive to party workers, urging them to fight as if their own party is in the fray, is resonating deeply, evident in the sea of red caps adorning rallies in these constituencies, media reported.

The alliance, although failing to gain traction in the 2017 assembly polls, appears to have found its footing in these high-stakes seats, fuelled by the tireless campaigning of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The presence of SP cadre, donning their signature red caps, alongside Congress leaders underscores a newfound synergy between the two parties.

According to SP’s Rae Bareli district chief Virendra Yadav, the alliance’s groundwork, initiated well in advance this time, has fostered a robust coordination among workers and leaders, promising a formidable challenge to opponents, according to news agency PTI report.

This sentiment is echoed by Congress leader Anshu Awasthi, who attributes the enthusiastic support of SP workers to their longstanding emotional bond with the Gandhi family in these constituencies, the PTI reported.

Former SP district president Ram Naresh Yadav emphasizes the synchronized efforts of SP and Congress workers, predicting a resounding victory for the INDIA bloc candidates. With six out of ten assembly segments in Amethi and Rae Bareli already under SP’s influence, bolstered further by the alliance’s grassroots collaboration, victory seems within grasp.

Traditionally, SP’s tacit support to the Congress in parliamentary polls has now evolved into a declared alliance, manifesting in joint rallies and visible camaraderie among supporters. The alliance’s resonance extends beyond party lines, with enthusiastic supporters like Kamlesh Yadav expressing solidarity with the joint endeavor.

As the electoral battle intensifies, all eyes are on the May 20 polls, where Rahul Gandhi and Lal Sharma, backed by the SP-Congress alliance, seek to secure victory against their BJP rivals in Amethi and Rae Bareli, respectively.
