Russia warns US of ‘fatal consequences’ after strike authorisation

Ryabkov cautioned American leaders against underestimating the gravity of their decisions…reports Asian Lite News

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov issued a stern warning to the United States, emphasising “fatal consequences” if Washington proceeds with allowing Ukraine to utilise US-provided weaponry against targets within Russia.

Ryabkov’s remarks follow President Joe Biden’s recent authorisation for such actions, specifically targeting sites implicated in attacks on Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.

Ryabkov cautioned American leaders against underestimating the gravity of their decisions, highlighting President Vladimir Putin’s prior admonitions regarding NATO’s actions and the looming threat of a broader global conflict.

He urged US officials to take Putin’s statements seriously and invest time in comprehending their implications, suggesting a lackadaisical attitude reminiscent of video game playing.

Putin’s assertion that Western involvement would be implicated in any Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russia further escalates tensions.

While NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg defended NATO’s stance on aiding Ukraine’s self-defence, Ryabkov emphasized Russia’s readiness to counter any attempts by Kyiv to target Russian early-warning radar systems.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude for US support in allowing the use of HIMARS rocket systems in the Kharkiv region. However, Ukraine contends that current restrictions on Western-supplied weapons hinder its defensive capabilities.

In response to reports of Ukrainian drones targeting Russian radar systems, Ryabkov hinted at potential asymmetric responses from Moscow.
