Centre Accelerates 17 Mega Infrastructure Projects Worth ₹14,096 Crore

The permanent campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Uttarakhand, located at Sumari in the Pauri Garhwal district, was another major project highlighted during the review

In a significant push to infrastructure development, the Central government has expedited 17 major projects with a cumulative investment of ₹14,096 crore across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

The decision came following a high-level review meeting chaired by Amardeep Bhatia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The session was held under the aegis of the Project Monitoring Group (PMG), a key initiative facilitating faster implementation of high-impact infrastructure projects through inter-ministerial and inter-state coordination.
The meeting addressed 19 critical issues impeding the progress of these projects, with a clear focus on resolving bottlenecks through proactive collaboration among central ministries, state governments, and private sector stakeholders.

Among the headline projects reviewed was the four-laning of the Jaunpur-Akbarpur road in Uttar Pradesh, pegged at ₹3,164.72 crore. With two major concerns spread across two work packages, the project is seen as vital for enhancing regional connectivity, reducing travel time, and bolstering economic linkages in the region.
Also receiving considerable attention was the development of new Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospitals at various key locations. These healthcare projects are part of the Centre’s broader agenda to enhance public health infrastructure, especially in underserved and high-density areas.

“These hospitals will not only improve access to quality healthcare services but also contribute significantly to regional development. Ensuring the health and well-being of the workforce and their families is an essential element of a strong and sustainable economy,” said Secretary Bhatia.

The permanent campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Uttarakhand, located at Sumari in the Pauri Garhwal district, was another major project highlighted during the review. The upcoming campus is expected to be a game-changer for the region’s educational and research landscape.

Once operational, the state-of-the-art facility will host cutting-edge academic infrastructure, fostering high-quality technical education and research. The campus is also expected to spur socio-economic growth in the surrounding region, creating employment opportunities and boosting ancillary development.

Bhatia emphasized the Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the institutional mechanisms that support timely infrastructure delivery. He encouraged all stakeholders — from government departments to private project proponents — to actively utilize the PMG platform to flag issues, seek support, and collaborate more effectively.

“The PMG platform is designed to streamline interactions between various government entities and facilitate quick resolution of implementation hurdles. We urge project developers to engage constructively so we can meet our infrastructure targets on time,” he said.

The PMG portal (https://pmg.dpiit.gov.in/) continues to be a critical enabler in this regard, offering a centralized space for monitoring, escalation, and coordination, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability in project execution. This latest review reinforces the Centre’s approach to infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and service delivery. By aligning state and central efforts and integrating private sector inputs, the government aims to remove long-standing barriers that often delay project timelines and escalate costs.

As India gears up for rapid development in transportation, healthcare, and education sectors, the swift execution of these mega projects is expected to pave the way for balanced regional development and improved quality of life for millions.
