Fahadh’s Rom-Com Readies Release

The wait is nearly over for fans of Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan, as director Althaf Salim’s much-anticipated Malayalam romantic comedy Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira gears up for release this Onam, promising laughter, love, and lighthearted chaos.

The trailer, unveiled recently, has already struck a chord with audiences. Packed with humour and quirky exchanges, it introduces viewers to an eccentric love story between Aby, played by Fahadh, and Kalyani’s character, whose unusual dreams and unpredictable behaviour push the romance into comically unconventional territory. From chasing a plump horse that resembles white halwa to defying his friends’ warnings about her oddities, Aby’s devotion forms the heart of the story. Yet, the trailer hints at deeper twists—surveillance, misunderstandings, and dramatic turns—that keep the rom-com from being just frothy fun.

Kalyani shared the trailer link on her social media, writing: “OUR TRAILER IS HERE! Hop on! In cinemas for Onam, 29th Aug.” Her excitement mirrors that of fans who have been tracking every development of the project since its first look poster dropped earlier this year.

The film has sparked particular interest as it marks Althaf Salim’s return to direction after his well-received debut Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela. That 2017 family drama, headlined by Nivin Pauly and Aishwarya Lekshmi, drew critical acclaim for its sensitive treatment of serious themes while blending humour and emotion. With Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, Althaf shifts gears into a more playful, romantic space, but expectations are high for the same finesse and freshness.

Production for the film commenced in April 2024, with around 70 per cent of the shoot taking place in Ernakulam and the rest in Chennai. Fans had speculated about an earlier release during Vishu after rumours swirled in December 2024, but the makers have strategically timed the release to coincide with Onam—a festive window known for drawing families to theatres.

The creative team behind the film has also boosted anticipation. Cinematographer Jinto George promises vibrant visuals, while Justin Varghese’s music is expected to lend the rom-com both groove and soul. Editing is helmed by Sundar Nayak, art direction by Ouseph John, and costumes by Mashar Hamsa, ensuring a polished and colourful presentation. The film is produced by Ashiq Usman, whose banner has previously backed successful Malayalam projects with strong entertainment value.

The title itself—Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira—adds to the intrigue. Loosely translated as “running horse, jumping horse,” it suggests a mix of energy, unpredictability, and humour, much like the story it encapsulates. Fahadh’s casting is another point of buzz, as the actor has built his reputation on excelling across genres, from intense thrillers to intimate dramas, making his leap into quirky romance a treat for fans.

With Onam festivities around the corner, Malayalam cinema is poised for a celebratory season at the box office. Amid the big releases, Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira stands out for its promise of clean comedy, heartfelt romance, and family-friendly entertainment. For Fahadh, Althaf, and Kalyani, it is a project that carries both fan expectations and the charm of a festival entertainer.

As the countdown to August 29 begins, audiences can expect laughter, surprises, and perhaps, a few lessons in love from Aby and his wildly unconventional partner.
