Green Stars Speak

This year’s World Environment Day theme is “Beat Plastic Pollution”, aligning with global efforts to phase out single-use plastics and promote circular economies

On the eve of World Environment Day 2025, celebrated annually on June 5, Bollywood actresses Bhagyashree and Dia Mirza delivered compelling messages urging citizens to embrace sustainability and climate responsibility.

Known for her advocacy of wellness and conscious living, Bhagyashree took to her social media to showcase elements of her eco-friendly lifestyle. In a short video, the Maine Pyar Kiya star demonstrated simple yet impactful daily habits—such as using a wooden toothbrush, storing water in glass bottles, and growing vegetables at home using compost made from kitchen waste.
“World Environment Day. Conscious sustainable choices of daily living. These are a few of the things I have incorporated. Wooden toothbrush, glass bottles, fresh veggies homegrown with kitchen waste compost.. And more. What is it that you do?” she captioned her post, encouraging her followers to reflect and act.
Meanwhile, Dia Mirza, a long-time climate crusader and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador, focused her message on the need for systemic change and large-scale citizen participation. She lauded Professor Chetan Singh Solanki, popularly known as “The Solar Man of India,” for spearheading the Finite Earth Movement under the Energy Swaraj Foundation.

In her post, Dia cited troubling statistics from the Global Footprint Network, noting that humanity is currently consuming resources 1.7 times faster than the Earth can regenerate.

“This means that to maintain our current lifestyles, we would need 1.7 Earths,” she explained, highlighting the urgency of reducing consumption. “The Finite Earth Movement is a clarion call for each of us to recognise the planet’s limits. Let’s make informed choices. Let’s join this mission to bring 1 billion people together for #ClimateAction.”

This year’s World Environment Day theme is “Beat Plastic Pollution”, aligning with global efforts to phase out single-use plastics and promote circular economies.
With the voices of popular public figures like Bhagyashree and Dia Mirza echoing the need for change, the message is clear—sustainability begins at home and grows with collective action.
