Rahman Set to Rock Thug Life

The actor emphasized the importance of national unity and reflection during times of military tension, stating, “As citizens, it is our duty to respond with restraint and solidarity

Anticipation surrounding director Mani Ratnam’s upcoming action drama Thug Life has soared, with its makers officially announcing that the film’s audio will be launched at a grand event in Chennai on May 24. Adding to the excitement, Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman will perform live at the launch event, which is scheduled to take place at Sairam College in the city.

Thug Life, starring iconic actor Kamal Haasan in the lead role, has already generated significant buzz among fans and industry insiders. The event on May 24 promises to be a high-profile affair, not only because of Rahman’s much-awaited live performance but also due to the massive expectations surrounding the film’s music and storyline.
Raaj Kamal Films International, the production house headed by Kamal Haasan and one of the key producers of Thug Life, issued a detailed statement on Wednesday outlining the updated schedule of the film’s promotional events. The trailer of the film is now slated to be released on May 17 at 5 PM, followed by the audio launch on May 24. The global theatrical release of the film is locked for June 5, 2025.
“In recent days, we paused our celebrations to stand in solidarity with the nation. We remain deeply grateful for the support, patience, and understanding of our audiences across the world,” the statement said. “With renewed clarity and respect for the moment, we now resume the Thug Life journey. The road ahead is charged with conviction in our hearts and creativity as our compass.”

Originally, the audio launch was scheduled for May 16. However, in light of rising tensions along India’s borders, the film’s team made a conscious decision to postpone the event. Kamal Haasan, known for his socially conscious views, had released a statement at the time saying, “Art can wait. India comes first. In view of the developments at our nation’s border and the current state of heightened alert, we have decided to reschedule the audio launch.” He further added, “As our soldiers stand firm on the frontlines with unflinching courage in defence of our motherland, I believe it is a time for quiet solidarity, not celebration.”

The actor emphasized the importance of national unity and reflection during times of military tension, stating, “As citizens, it is our duty to respond with restraint and solidarity. Celebration must make way for reflection.” Directed by legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam, Thug Life is described by producers Madras Talkies as “an epic tale of power, rebellion, and triumph.” Kamal Haasan will be seen portraying a character named Rangaraya Sakthivel Naickan—a role expected to blend political gravitas and action-driven intensity.
The film also stars an ensemble cast that includes Silambarasan, Trisha, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, and Abhirami, with each playing significant roles that contribute to the narrative’s depth and scale.
Behind the camera, the film boasts a formidable crew. A.R. Rahman is composing the music, continuing his long-standing collaboration with Mani Ratnam. The cinematography is handled by ace lensman Ravi K. Chandran, while Sreekar Prasad takes charge of editing. Action choreography is managed by the renowned stunt duo Anbariv.
The live performance by Rahman at the audio launch is expected to be one of the major highlights of the film’s promotional campaign. Known for his electrifying stage presence and rich musical legacy, Rahman’s presence adds a layer of prestige and excitement to the event.

With a story steeped in rebellion and resistance, Thug Life is expected to be a gripping cinematic experience. As the countdown to the trailer and audio launch begins, fans and cinephiles alike are eagerly waiting to see how the film unfolds on the big screen.
