Held at the SBA’s headquarters, the workshop saw a fusion of traditional and digital painting methods, as well as innovative artistic approaches, to reimagine the rich heritage of Andalusia through a modern lens
In preparation for Sharjah’s Guest of Honour programme at the Rabat International Book Fair (RIBF 2025), the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) recently concluded a three-day art production workshop titled “Al-Andalus: A Futuristic Visual Simulation.” The event brought together six painters, graphic designers, and visual artists from the UAE and Morocco to create artwork inspired by Andalusian civilisation, blending historical authenticity with contemporary artistic techniques.
Held at the SBA’s headquarters, the workshop saw a fusion of traditional and digital painting methods, as well as innovative artistic approaches, to reimagine the rich heritage of Andalusia through a modern lens. The participating artists focused on interpreting Andalusian cultural history while envisioning its future significance, creating a dynamic dialogue between past and present.
The artworks created during the workshop will be featured in a specially curated art book and displayed at the Sharjah pavilion during RIBF 2025, taking place from April 17 to 27. The exhibition will be part of the cultural programming organised by Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication.
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, emphasised the project’s role in reinterpreting Arab cultural history. He stated, “Art transcends heritage preservation; it bridges cultural exchange and reintroduces the aesthetics that have shaped Arab civilisation.” Al Ameri also highlighted the initiative’s success in fostering creative interaction between Emirati and Moroccan artists, which aligns with Sharjah’s cultural vision under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
The project, guided by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the SBA, is a significant contribution to both the Arab and global cultural landscape.
Al Ameri added, “We look forward to offering RIBF visitors an immersive visual experience that celebrates the richness of Andalusian heritage while envisioning its future relevance.”
Notable participating artists included Rafiah Al Nassar, Alia Al Hammadi, and Noor Al Khamiri from the UAE, and Moulay Youssef Al Kahfaei, Bachir Amal, and Ahmed Jarid from Morocco. Their unique artistic contributions reflect the diverse and evolving perspectives on Andalusian cultural heritage.
