‘The Eye’ Starring Shruti Haasan to Open 5th Wench Film Festival

Shruti Haasan spoke about her excitement for the film’s Indian premiere, emphasizing her fascination with psychological thrillers. “Psychological thrillers have always been a genre that fascinates me,” she shared

The British psychological thriller The Eye, starring Shruti Haasan, is set to make its India premiere as the opening feature of the 5th Wench Film Festival. Founded by Sapna Bhavnani, the festival, dedicated to horror, sci-fi, and fantasy films, will take place from February 27 to March 2, 2025.

The Eye marks Shruti Haasan’s international debut as a leading lady and is directed by Daphne Schmon. The film delves into the haunting story of Diana (played by Haasan), who journeys to a remote island where her husband Felix (Mark Rowley) drowned. Diana seeks closure by scattering his ashes but soon becomes intrigued by an ancient ritual known as the ‘Evil Eye.’ This unsettling practice may offer her a chance to bring Felix back but demands a dark, sacrificial cost. The film was shot on location in Athens and Corfu.

Shruti Haasan spoke about her excitement for the film’s Indian premiere, emphasizing her fascination with psychological thrillers. “Psychological thrillers have always been a genre that fascinates me,” she shared. “To be part of a story that dives deep into human emotions, grief, and the supernatural is incredibly exciting. Besides the riveting storyline and top-notch production quality, what makes this project special is that it was created under an all-women-led production house, which aligns with my passion for supporting women in the film industry.”

Haasan also highlighted the film’s sustainable approach to filmmaking, noting, “This film champions a sustainable way of filmmaking, something the world desperately needs. If we want to continue telling our stories, we must do so in a manner that is conscious of our impact.”

Director Daphne Schmon reflected on the film’s deeper emotional layers, stating, “‘The Eye’ is both a love letter to Corfu, the island where my family is from, and an exploration of the dark psychological impulses surrounding grief. The story demanded an actor who could embody its emotional depth, and Shruti Haasan was the perfect fit. Her ability to navigate Diana’s grief, paranoia, and resilience with such authenticity is remarkable.”

Produced by Fingerprint Content, The Eye promises to be an intense cinematic experience, blending psychological depth with supernatural suspense. The 5th Wench Film Festival is the perfect platform for this gripping and emotionally charged thriller to captivate Indian audiences.
