Tejashwi Yadav hit back at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming that he made the latter the CM twice and that JDU is surviving only because of his support.
Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, has launched a sharp counterattack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming that he was responsible for making Kumar the Chief Minister twice. He also asserted that the Janata Dal (United) [JDU] continues to exist only because of his support.
Yadav’s remarks came in response to Nitish Kumar’s statement in the Bihar Assembly, where the Chief Minister claimed that he had played a crucial role in making Lalu Prasad Yadav the Chief Minister in 1990.
Expressing disbelief over Kumar’s statement, Tejashwi Yadav dismissed it as misleading. “I am highly surprised that he made such a statement inside the Bihar Assembly. It is not just misleading but completely untrue. Nitish Kumar should remember that when my father was twice an MLA and once an MP, he (Nitish) was nothing. My father has played a role in making several Prime Ministers of the country,” Yadav said.
Taking a dig at Kumar’s party, he emphasised that JDU’s position in Bihar has diminished significantly. “JDU is now the third-largest party in the state. I made Nitish Kumar the Chief Minister twice—that is why JDU is still alive today,” he remarked, referring to the 2015 Assembly elections and Nitish Kumar’s political realignment after parting ways with the BJP in 2022.
Yadav did not hold back in criticising the state’s administration under Kumar’s leadership. “The system in Bihar is sick and worn out. There are retired officers and a tired Chief Minister running the government. If he remains in power any longer, he will make the entire state sick,” he said.
Nitish Kumar, on the other hand, brushed aside Tejashwi Yadav’s claims, calling him a “child” with little knowledge of Bihar’s political past. Defending his tenure, Kumar asserted that when he came to power in 2005, Bihar had no proper roads, hospitals, or infrastructure, and that his government had worked extensively to put the state on a path of development.
The verbal duel underscores the deep-rooted political rivalry between Kumar and the Yadav family. As Bihar moves closer to Assembly elections, this ongoing war of words is expected to shape political alliances and voter sentiments in the state.
