Table Shake-Up Looms

Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim is in need of a convincing performance when Sunderland visit Old Trafford on Saturday,,,reports Asian Lite News

The Premier League heads into a potentially decisive weekend that could shake up the top of the table — and pile the pressure on a few managers fighting to keep their jobs. All eyes will be on Stamford Bridge, where Liverpool face Chelsea in a fixture that could define the next few weeks for both clubs.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot and Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca each find themselves under scrutiny following disappointing results. Chelsea sit eighth in the table, with Maresca desperate to avoid a third consecutive league defeat that could push his side further down the standings. Liverpool, meanwhile, are reeling from back-to-back losses — a shock Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace followed by a damaging UEFA Champions League loss to Galatasaray, which also saw goalkeeper Alisson Becker pick up an injury. Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to deputise, as Liverpool’s defence looks to recover its shape and confidence.

Elsewhere, Arsenal can move top of the table — at least temporarily — when they host West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s men have been buoyed by last weekend’s win over Newcastle and a solid 2–0 midweek victory against Olympiacos. However, they’ll need to overcome their recent struggles against West Ham, having lost their last two home encounters. Under new manager Nuno Espírito Santo, West Ham have shown renewed defensive discipline, evident in their draw against Everton, which could make Arsenal’s task trickier.

Two managers in particular face mounting pressure this weekend. Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim is in need of a convincing performance when Sunderland visit Old Trafford on Saturday. United’s defeat to Brentford last weekend erased the optimism that followed their win over Chelsea. With a patient but increasingly restless fan base, anything less than victory could intensify speculation over Amorim’s position.

Ange Postecoglou also finds himself in a difficult spot as Newcastle United host Nottingham Forest. Thursday’s 3–2 Europa League loss to Midtjylland extended Newcastle’s winless run to six matches, prompting frustration among the home fans. Postecoglou urgently needs a result to stop the slide.

Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City head to Brentford still searching for the defensive solidity that can sustain a title challenge, while Aston Villa look to continue their impressive form at home against Burnley.

Tottenham Hotspur face a testing trip to Leeds United, who are adapting well to life back in the top flight, while Wolverhampton Wanderers will look to end their winless start when they host Brighton. A Carabao Cup victory over Everton and a league draw against Spurs hinted at progress, but coach Vítor Pereira will be eager to enter the international break with that elusive first league win secured.
