A bomb threat was reported on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-356, which was en route from Rome, Italy, to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka received the threat via an anonymous phone call.

Clash in Shyamnagar

At least 22 people, including police officers and security personnel, were injured in violent clashes between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Shyamnagar upazila, Satkhira District, on Wednesday, despite the imposition of Section 144. The conflict erupted in the Ismailpur area after tensions escalated between the two groups.

The clashes followed a rally organised by leaders of the newly formed Shyamnagar BNP committee, which led members of the dissolved committee to take action to prevent the event. As a result, Section 144 was imposed in the area to maintain order. However, violence broke out when a stick was thrown during a procession led by Solaiman Kabir, former acting general secretary of the Upazila BNP, as it made its way towards Shyamnagar town.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Roni Khatun and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abdullah Al Rifat, along with police and security personnel, attempted to intervene, but the violence continued, resulting in multiple injuries. Among the injured were Shyamnagar police station’s officer in charge, Humayun Kabir, security personnel Saiful Islam, and several BNP activists.

Solaiman Kabir claimed that his supporters had been attacked in earlier incidents on January 19 and 20, leading to the protest march. He accused leaders of the dissolved committee and Awami League activists of inciting the violence. Meanwhile, Ashik-e-Elahi Munna, joint general secretary of the dissolved committee, alleged that Kabir’s group had tried to disrupt a BNP Chhatra Dal meeting in Shyamnagar, claiming they were attacked by Kabir’s supporters with the help of Awami League members.

Abdul Wahed, president of the dissolved Upazila BNP committee, called for an investigation into the clashes and demanded justice.
