Gabbard Expresses Commitment to Strengthen US-India Ties

Gabbard, a long-time advocate for US-India ties, was the Prime Minister’s first major visitor during his recent trip. She met Modi at Blair House, a US government residence, just after her confirmation earlier that day.

Tulsi Gabbard, the newly appointed US Director of National Intelligence, expressed her enthusiasm to further strengthen the US-India relationship in a post on X (formerly Twitter). On Friday, Gabbard wrote, “It was an honor to welcome India’s Prime Minister @narendramodi back to the United States, and I look forward to continuing to strengthen the US-India friendship.”

Her message followed a post by Prime Minister Modi, in which he praised his meeting with Gabbard on Wednesday. “Met USA’s Director of National Intelligence, @TulsiGabbard in Washington DC. Congratulated her on her confirmation. Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she’s always been a strong votary.”

Gabbard, who previously served as a member of the US House of Representatives, has deep ties to India. As co-chair of the India Caucus, she had fostered a personal relationship with Modi. Notably, the Prime Minister sent gifts to Gabbard on the occasion of her 2015 wedding in Hawaii.

Gabbard joins Mike Waltz, the US National Security Adviser, another former co-chair of the India Caucus, in playing a key role in US-India relations under the current administration. Waltz was the second visitor to meet Modi on Thursday, followed by Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, who also visited with his family.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a prominent Indian-American entrepreneur, was the third high-profile visitor to Blair House during Modi’s visit.
