PM Modi meets Indian diaspora and tech entrepreneurs in South Africa, urging stronger collaboration, promoting culture, and deepening India’s ties with entrepreneurs and community leaders abroad.
India Prime Minister Narendra Modi held key interactions with Indian-origin tech entrepreneurs and community leaders in Johannesburg, emphasising the need for deeper engagement with India, as part his three-day visit to South Africa for the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
In a meeting with tech innovators, Modi discussed collaboration in sectors such as FinTech, social media, agriculture, healthcare, education, and medical devices. He encouraged entrepreneurs to strengthen links with India, leveraging technology and expertise to drive global growth and bilateral development. Participants shared projects ranging from telehealth platforms and digital agriculture solutions to initiatives addressing tourism and food security.
“One of the main points was how India and South Africa can scale growth responsibly while improving lives,” said an entrepreneur engaged in agricultural innovation. Others highlighted ongoing contributions in media, technology, and education. Modi lauded their work and urged them to explore closer partnerships with India.
The Prime Minister also met members of the Indian community, underscoring the importance of promoting Indian culture abroad. He encouraged diaspora-led initiatives to expand awareness of Indian traditions, Yoga, Ayurveda, and the Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz. Cultural performances, titled ‘Rhythms of a United India,’ showcased folk dances from 11 Indian states, highlighting the vibrancy of India’s heritage in South Africa.
Community leaders expressed admiration for Modi’s vision. Swami Acharya described the interaction as “invigorating,” while Swami Abhedananda of the Chinmaya Mission called it “enjoyable and inspiring.” Modi received a Kalash from the Chinmaya Mission, containing Shree Anna from India and South Africa, which will be placed at Durban’s Annapoorna Devi Temple.
The G20 Summit in Johannesburg, taking place on November 22-23, provides a platform for Modi to further bilateral engagements. Alongside global leaders, he is expected to continue promoting technological collaboration, people-to-people ties, and the cultural connections of the Indian diaspora in South Africa.
