PM Modi Meets Vivek Ramaswamy In Washington

Ramaswamy, a billionaire entrepreneur with a background in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and finance, is currently running for Governor of Ohio.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in an “insightful discussion” with Vivek Ramaswamy, a rising political figure in the US, focusing on India-US relations, innovation, biotechnology, and the transformative role of entrepreneurship.

The meeting took place at Blair House, with External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noting on X: “They had insightful discussions on India-US ties, innovation, biotechnology, and the role of entrepreneurship in shaping the future.”

Ramaswamy, a billionaire entrepreneur with a background in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and finance, is currently running for Governor of Ohio. Previously, he contested the Republican presidential primaries but later endorsed President Donald Trump after stepping out of the race.

Known for his strong advocacy of the H-1B visa programme, Ramaswamy reiterated its importance for bringing talented professionals, many of whom are Indian, to the US. He has argued against calls from far-right factions to end the programme, emphasising that immigrants are critical for sectors where Americans lack the necessary skills and commitment to education.

Ramaswamy, whose parents hail from Palakkad, Kerala, highlighted his personal connection to India, adding depth to his conversation with PM Modi. His father still retains his Indian citizenship.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi also met with Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO and head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to discuss opportunities in space, mobility, and technology. Modi and Musk explored collaborative governance strategies aimed at efficiency and sustainability.

PM Modi’s US visit comes at the invitation of President Donald Trump, marking their first in-person meeting during Trump’s second term. The two leaders, who share a history of camaraderie dating back to Trump’s first term, are expected to reinforce the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US.

During his visit, PM Modi has also met key US officials, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, as he works to strengthen bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister’s agenda underscores India’s commitment to advancing ties with the US, focusing on innovation, technology, and global strategic collaboration.
