National recognition for H&F’s inclusive services

The recognition comes after an in-depth review of H&F’s Local Offer for SEND webpages….reports Asian Lite News

Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s online support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) has been named the best in England by the National Association of Family Information Services. The accolade highlights the council’s commitment to empowering families through a comprehensive, user-friendly digital resource.

The recognition comes after an in-depth review of H&F’s Local Offer for SEND webpages. The assessment praised the council’s collaborative approach, working closely with parents, service providers, and local organisations to create an accessible and effective platform. The website provides information on a wide range of services for children and young people up to the age of 25, including health, education, care provisions, and guidance for transitioning to adulthood.

Councillor Alex Sanderson, Deputy Leader of H&F, expressed pride in the achievement:

“We want to empower families and young people to make decisions that are right for them. From speech and language support to advice on youth clubs and work experience, our goal is to ensure every young person in H&F thrives and leads a fulfilling life. This award is a testament to the incredible collaboration between our residents, families, service providers, and expert partners.”

The council’s Family Hub website and the state-of-the-art Stephen Wiltshire Centre in Fulham offer additional avenues for support, hosting events and providing specialist services for families. These resources are designed to address the diverse needs of the community while encouraging active participation from families and caregivers.

The Local Offer was co-produced with key stakeholders, including Parentsactive, Young H&F Foundation, and the Action on Disability Youth Board. Reema Sharma, Coordinator of Parentsactive, underscored the importance of the resource:

“This invaluable platform serves as a beacon of support for families with children who have special educational needs and disabilities. We are thrilled to work alongside H&F Council and proud to see this resource receive such well-deserved recognition.”

H&F’s ongoing efforts reflect its dedication to inclusivity, ensuring families have the tools and support they need to navigate life’s challenges and opportunities.
