During the meeting, Kobir briefed the UN official on Prime Minister’s key engagements during the 81st UN General Assembly High-Level Week, including his meeting with the UN Secretary-General.

He called for stronger coordination among UN agencies operating in Bangladesh and closer alignment of their programmes with the country’s Five-Year Strategic Framework for Reform and Development for 2026-2031.

The discussion also focused on the Rohingya crisis, which remains a major issue for Bangladesh. Kobir expressed appreciation for the UN’s humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees and urged continued international efforts towards their early and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.

He stressed that repatriation remained the only viable long-term solution to the crisis.

Bangladesh hosts a large Rohingya refugee population that fled violence and persecution in Myanmar, and Dhaka has repeatedly called for their safe and sustainable return.

Flore-Smereczniak reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Bangladesh and continuing its support for the country’s development priorities.

The meeting highlighted Bangladesh’s efforts to strengthen its partnership with the UN across development, humanitarian assistance and regional issues.
