Lt. Gen. Shokin Chauhan, Chairman of Cease-Fire Monitoring Group has given an excellent presentation on Nagaland and diverse North East on a virtual platform on Saturday, 22 August. Organised by Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence, the session lasted about 100 minutes, including the Q and A where participants have clarified several of their curious queries.
General Chauhan is the recipient of five Presidential awards including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), the Yudh Seva Medal (YSM) and the Sena Medal (SM) for distinguished service in India and abroad, and has delivered the session with lucid eloquence. With an extensive and versatile experience, he presented captivating genesis and historical perspective of early mobility at the outset.
The cross-connects section that he included was immensely interesting, which underscored the movement of people from Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Bangladesh into the North East. Equally interesting was the fact that the Neolithic excavations in Assam-Garo Hills establish linkage between North East India and South-East Asia to 1500 BC.
This continued with an exhilarating perceptive account of the North East ranging from amazing conglomeration of people in the region with more than 200 languages and dialects, to how efficient border control could improve trade and economic growth. The General then highlighted Nagaland and its 16 tribes, Hornbill Festival, Battle of Kohima & the War Memorial, opportunities and developmental challenges. Vote of Thanks was rendered by Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Founder of Sanskruti Centre.
