Trump ‘guilty’ of felonies: Ex-prosecutor

The investigation had probed whether Trump fraudulently overvalued multiple assets to secure loans and then undervalued them to minimize taxes…reports Asian Lite News

Former US President Donald Trump is “guilty of numerous felony violations”, according to the prosecutor who had been leading a criminal investigation into Trump’s business practices before resigning last month.

In his resignation letter, published by the New York Times, Mark Pomerantz told District Attorney Alvin Bragg there was “evidence sufficient to establish Mr. Trump’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt” of allegations he falsified financial statements to secure loans and burnish his image as a wealthy businessman, media reported.

“The team that has been investigating Mr. Trump harbours no doubt about whether he committed crimes — he did,” the report quoted Pomerantz in the letter.

The investigation had probed whether Trump fraudulently overvalued multiple assets to secure loans and then undervalued them to minimize taxes, it was reported.

Trump has not been charged and has repeatedly described the case as a political witch hunt by a Democratic prosecutor.

In July last year, the Trump Organization and its long-serving finance chief, Allen Weisselberg, were charged with 15 felony fraud and tax evasion charges.

They pleaded not guilty, and Weisselberg’s trial is due to begin in the middle of this year., it was reported.
