Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai has approved AED 1.6 billion in housing loans for 2,000 Emiratis as part of Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme (SZHP).

Taking to Twitter, Sheikh Mohammed said: “Today, we approved housing loans worth Dh1.6 billion for 2,000 Emiratis under the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme.”

The Vice President said: “This programme, named after our founding father, continues to fulfil his vision. Remembering his words, ‘money and age may fade, but service to our homeland endures and is eternal.’ May Zayed’s legacy continue to guide us. Blessings to the UAE and its people.”

The Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme was established in 1999 to provide interest-free loans repayable over a 25-year period to citizens with low incomes.

The housing programme, under the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), has issued 945 decisions for housing aid valued at AED 749 million so far in 2023. This includes decisions to provide either government houses or home finance jointly with banks and represents 32 percent of the total 3,000 decisions that the Programme aims to issue in 2023.

Eng Mohamed Al Mansouri, Director of SZHP, said: “We continue to work relentlessly and join forces with our stakeholders to bring government housing plans and strategies into fruition, to improve the social wellbeing and living conditions of UAE people.

“Providing decent residences for Emiratis is at the top of our leadership’s priorities, as the prosperity of the people is a pillar of the country’s sustainable development, in line with the government objectives for the next 50 years. To contribute to the happiness of UAE citizens, SZHP has devised plans and launched qualitive initiatives and projects to step up residential stability and meet the needs of Emiratis who applied for housing aid. For the next phase, we seek to align efforts among the government, the private sector, and the local community to better serve the Programme beneficiaries.”
