The United States imported a record amount of Russian fertilisers worth 944 million U.S. dollars from January to July, local media reported on Sunday.

The export value of Russian fertilizers to the United States rose by 5 percent in the first seven months from the same period of last year, which stood at 900 million dollars, the previous peak, according to Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti.

Yet in July, U.S. purchases fell threefold compared to June, the lowest since August 2021.

Russia was the second largest supplier of fertilizers to the United States in the first seven months of this year, only after Canada.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia has withstood the unprecedented pressure from Western sanctions.

“We have withstood the absolutely unprecedented external pressure, the sanctions onslaught of some ruling elites in the … Western bloc … in individual countries that we call unfriendly,” Putin said on Monday during a meeting on the federal budget for 2024-2026, Xinhua news agency reported.

“Russia’s GDP has reached the level of 2021, and now, it is important to create conditions for further stable and long-term development,” he said, announcing that the country’s economic recovery period is now complete.

Last week, the Russian government had expelled two US diplomats for allegedly maintaining contact with a Russian national who worked for the US Mission and is accused by Moscow of being an “informant,” CNN reported. The two diplomats – Jeffrey Sillin and David Bernstein have been declared as “persona non grata,” which implies that they have to leave the country within one week.

United States has condemned Russia’s decision stating that Mosco was chosen “confrontation and escalation over constructive diplomatic engagement.”
