IIW Celebrates Women Empowerment and Cultural Heritage with Stellar Events

IIW, renowned for creating platforms and opportunities for women to shine, started the year on a high note. On January 10th, they celebrated World Hindi Day at the prestigious Nehru Centre. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Author and Poet Shashi Mathur, Former MP Virendra Sharma, Anchor Ravi Sharma, Warrant Officer Ashok Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Hertsmere Parveen Rani, India Welfare Society Founder Suresh Kumar Gupta, Renowned Poet Ashish Mishra, prominent members of the Uttar Pradesh Community Association Santosh Pandey and Rajesh Vishwakarma, Councillor Kaza, Author and Philanthropist Manju Lodha, Poet and Teacher Indu Barot, and Author, Poet, and Singer Dr. Gyan Sharma.

Talented poetesses Vini Kalia, Vandana Khurana, Anita Anand Nayyar, Antareepa Thakur Mukherjee, Sangita Prasad, Dharti Vasani, and Astha Deo mesmerized the audience with their performances. The event was beautifully hosted by Darshana Shah and Sarika Handa. IIW volunteers Rupali Ravi, Su Rawat, Betania Fernandes, Chanda Jha, and Anjali Sharma worked tirelessly behind the scenes, while refreshments were provided by Sangita Pandey.

The team later undertook the monumental task of providing a platform for 60 British Indian children to express their love for their country of ethnicity, India, during the Republic Day celebrations. This event welcomed every child without any selection process or auditions. Organized since 2017, it has become a flagship and much-anticipated program, generating widespread interest among parents.

The event aimed to connect children with their roots and support women entrepreneurs through sponsorships and donations. It was attended by MP Honourable Bob Blackman CBE, Former MP Virendra Sharma, Former Mayor Ramji Chauhan, His Worshipful Mayor Harrow Salim Chowdhury, Sonoo Malkani, Cllr Anjana Patel, Warrant Officer Ashok Kumar Chauhan, Retired Met Police Officer Purnima Rawal, and Lord Rami Ranger.

The dedicated IIW team, including Chiyasami, Chinu Kishore, Nilanjana Paul, Heenaba Zala, Betania Fernandes, Shilpa Choudhary, Jay Desai, Neha Jethwa, Sudha Rawat, Gayatri Shenoy, Chanda Jha, Rupali Ravi, Nidhi Mishra Raithatha, Padma Jain, Soniya Joshi, Shipra Gomes, Kavita Gulati, Pritha Mukherjee, Alka Rahalkar, Seema Khandelwal, Riya, Sarika Handa, Vini Kaalia, and Darshana Shah, worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success. The venue was packed with an enthusiastic audience.

On December 8th, a workshop titled “Sshakt Mahila, Sshakt and Viksit Bharat” was held at the Mayor’s Hall. It was attended by President of India Awardee Nabomita Majumdar, Dr. Sukanya Iyer, an expert on Government of India MSME policies, and other prominent panel members. The program was organized for slum women. IIW also celebrated Diwali by taking slum children to McDonald’s and distributing stationery. In the North East Chapter, Deputy Director Rajni Shah distributed shoes at an orphanage during Christmas.

All eyes are now on the IIW She Inspires Awards 2025, an honest attempt to acknowledge ordinary women in the UK Parliament during International Women’s Month. The events are scheduled as follows: on March 24th, hosted by Honourable MP Joy Morrissey, and on March 25th, the Dharma Dubey Special Awards hosted by Honourable MP Bob Blackman.
