Sharjah’s FANN Empowers Youth with Media Arts Workshops

These workshops, which cover a wide array of creative fields including filmmaking, multimedia, animation, and photography, seek to foster a deep sense of creativity and inspire passion in the arts

FANN – the Media Discovery Platform, established under the vision of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, continues to make strides in shaping the future of young creative minds in the emirate. As part of its ongoing initiatives, FANN is offering a series of dynamic workshops in May for children and youth aged 6 to 18, aimed at empowering the next generation of artists and media professionals.

These workshops, which cover a wide array of creative fields including filmmaking, multimedia, animation, and photography, seek to foster a deep sense of creativity and inspire passion in the arts. The goal is to equip young individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue careers in various sectors of media and visual arts, helping them discover their talents while igniting their imagination.
This initiative is fully aligned with the Supreme Council for Family Affairs’ overarching vision to provide opportunities for children and youth to explore their potential. By investing in creative education, the Foundation also aims to strengthen Sharjah’s reputation as a city committed to being child- and youth-friendly, nurturing a vibrant environment that encourages artistic growth.

Huda Safar Al Harmoudi, Deputy Director General of the FUNN Foundation, expressed the organization’s commitment to offering innovative platforms that provide children and youth with the tools necessary to develop and refine their media art skills. “The objective of these workshops is to spark curiosity, nurture young talent, and provide our youth with the knowledge and experience to pursue careers in the creative industries,” she stated.

The workshops being conducted throughout May include specialized programs to provide both introductory and advanced training. One such program is “From Script to Screen,” which runs until May 25th and is designed for young people aged 15 to 18. This workshop, supervised by Maryam Al Serkal, offers an exciting opportunity to learn the fundamentals of scriptwriting, filmmaking, directing, and editing. Participants will be encouraged to produce short films, which will be showcased at the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth in October 2025, providing them with a real platform to display their creations.

The Foundation is also hosting the “Eid with Art 1” workshop, which runs until May 8th. This workshop is aimed at children aged 13 to 15, where they will delve into the world of Eid-themed design. Students will create custom gift packaging, including gift cards, mugs, posters, and gift box covers. This initiative is meant to combine the spirit of celebration with creativity, while teaching participants practical skills in digital art and design.

Following this, FANN is collaborating with Tamakn to organize the “Eid with Art 2” workshop on May 14th and 15th. In this session, children will learn to design Eid envelopes and cards using digital tools, allowing them to explore the world of graphic design and typography while contributing to the festive season’s aesthetic. This gives the participants hands-on experience with the design process and introduces them to the world of digital artistry.

Additionally, the “Family Photography” workshop is scheduled for May 24th and 25th. Young individuals aged 15 to 18 will have the chance to explore the basics of photography under the guidance of professional photographer Ola Al Loz. They will learn essential techniques such as lighting, image composition, and visual storytelling methods, all of which are integral to capturing the essence of family portraits. The workshop aims to provide students with the skills to create compelling visual stories through the lens of photography, allowing them to express their creativity in capturing familial bonds and moments.

These workshops reflect FUNN’s ongoing commitment to enhancing young talents’ skills in the media and arts sector. By equipping them with both creative tools and the knowledge to succeed, FANN aims to create a generation of young individuals who are ready to make their mark in the world of visual arts, further advancing Sharjah’s status as a center of artistic excellence and innovation.
