The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has welcomed the United Nations’ new Roadmap for Libya, presented to the UN Security Council on 21 August 2025 by Hanna Tetteh, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

The Roadmap seeks to resolve the Libyan crisis through a political process centred on institutional unification, the holding of elections, and the launch of an inclusive, structured national dialogue.

The Chairperson called on all Libyan stakeholders to engage in good faith with the process of dialogue and reconciliation to achieve a peaceful settlement of the conflict. He further stressed the importance of close coordination among regional, continental, and international partners to provide the necessary political support for the Roadmap’s implementation.

Reaffirming the African Union’s commitment to supporting the Libyan people in their pursuit of lasting peace, stability, and reconciliation, the Chairperson praised the continued efforts of the AU High-Level Committee on Libya, chaired by H.E. Sassou Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo.

The Chairperson concluded by reiterating the African Union’s full support for the implementation of the UN Roadmap as a critical step towards restoring peace and stability in Libya.
