Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on the country to maintain firm confidence and take steady steps towards what he described as the “great rejuvenation” of the Chinese nation, as China marked the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a reception held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to celebrate the anniversary. China’s National Day falls on October 1.
Premier Li Qiang presided over the reception, which was attended by senior Chinese officials, including Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng, along with about 800 guests, Xinhua News Agency reported.
“The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable,” Xi said. “As long as we remain confident, stay focused on our goals and move forward steadily, step by step, success will ultimately belong to the great CPC, the great Chinese people and the great People’s Republic of China.”

Xi said that over the past 77 years, the CPC had led the Chinese people in achieving what he described as two “miracles” of rapid economic growth and enduring social stability.
“We take immense pride in the extraordinary achievements of New China and have full confidence in the bright prospects of Chinese modernization,” he said, according to Xinhua.
Xi also highlighted China’s economic performance since the beginning of the year, saying the economy had continued to progress despite mounting pressure and had demonstrated resilience and vitality through innovation-driven and high-quality development.
He called for efforts to sustain the momentum, promote innovation-driven, high-quality and sound economic development, and take practical measures to safeguard and improve people’s livelihoods.
Xi said China should also meet the targets and tasks set for the year to ensure a good start to the 15th Five-Year Plan covering 2026 to 2030.
He stressed the need to remain firmly committed to the “one country, two systems” policy governing Hong Kong and Macao, under which the two regions enjoy a high degree of autonomy.
Xi said the central government would support Hong Kong and Macao in integrating more fully into the country’s overall development while maintaining their long-term prosperity and stability.
On Taiwan, Xi called for efforts to deepen exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait and reiterated Beijing’s opposition to what it describes as “Taiwan independence” forces and external interference.
He called for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations to advance national reunification.
On foreign policy, Xi said China would continue to pursue an independent foreign policy of peace and advance the implementation of the four major global initiatives it has proposed.
He also called for efforts to promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, saying China would contribute greater certainty and positive energy to what he described as a turbulent world.
The remarks came as China marked the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, which was established on October 1, 1949. Xinhua reported that the reception was held as part of the National Day celebrations.
