External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Ghana from October 6 to 7 at the invitation of Ghanaian Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, with the two countries expected to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, industry, education and information technology.
The visit was announced by Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, which described it as an opportunity for the two countries to renew their longstanding ties and shared values.
“The Minister of External Affairs of India, His Excellency Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, will pay an Official visit to Ghana from 6th to 7th October 2026 at the invitation of Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa,” the ministry said in a post on Facebook.
“Ghana looks forward to hosting His Excellency Dr. S. Jaishankar on this historic visit, which will afford the two countries the opportunity to renew their inseparable bond of solidarity and shared values,” it added.
According to the ministry, discussions during the visit will focus on advancing bilateral relations in pharmaceutical development within the framework of President John Dramani Mahama’s Accra Reset philosophy.
The talks are also expected to cover agricultural cooperation, particularly mechanisation and value addition, as well as support for Ghana’s industrialisation and job creation agenda.
Education and technology will also feature in the discussions, with the two sides expected to explore ways to expand scholarships and IT partnerships.
The visit comes as India and Ghana continue to explore opportunities for greater cooperation across several sectors.
In July, the two countries discussed strengthening cooperation in the maritime and port sectors.
India’s High Commissioner designate to Ghana, Surinder Bhagat, paid a courtesy call on Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, Acting Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), during the month.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on strengthening cooperation in maritime and port-related areas.
The High Commission of India said on X that India remained committed to advancing its longstanding partnership with Ghana through stronger economic engagement and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Earlier, Bhagat also met Kamal-Deen Ali, Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority.
The discussions included issues concerning the welfare, safety and well-being of Indian seafarers and crew members operating in Ghanaian waters.
According to the Indian High Commission, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation to ensure the safe and secure facilitation of Indian maritime personnel and addressing concerns affecting Indian seafarers.
The discussions also sought to improve coordination between the High Commission of India and the Ghana Maritime Authority to support the continued well-being of Indian maritime personnel.
Jaishankar’s Ghana visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to review existing areas of cooperation and identify further opportunities for bilateral engagement.
The focus on pharmaceuticals, agriculture, industrial development, scholarships and IT partnerships reflects the broad range of sectors in which India and Ghana are seeking to deepen cooperation.
The visit will also provide a platform for the two countries to discuss their shared priorities and explore ways to strengthen economic and development partnerships.
Jaishankar’s talks with Ghanaian officials are expected to further reinforce bilateral engagement and build on recent discussions in sectors including maritime cooperation and economic development.
