    8 Indians rescued from oil tanker that sank off Oman coast

    Nine crew members of the oil tanker Prestige Falcon that capsized off the Oman coast on July 15, were recovered alive, while one crew member was found dead during the rescue operation, the Maritime Security Centre of Oman said on Wednesday.

    The search and rescue operations is underway for the remaining crew members.

    “Search and rescue operations have successfully found 10 crew members of the oil tanker Prestige Falcon, 9 found alive. Tragically, one crew member was found deceased. The search and rescue operations continue for the remaining members of the vessel’s crew,” Oman’s Maritime Security Centre said.

    The MV had capsized about 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Oman, on July 15 and search and rescue efforts in coordination with Oman authorities have been in progress since July 16.

    The MV is reported to have had a total of 16 crew members, including 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans.

    Earlier, the Indian Navy said that its mission deployed the warship INS Teg, rendering rescued nine crew members, including eight Indians, who were on an oil tanker that capsized off the Oman coast on July 15.

    The nine rescued crew members included eight Indians and one Sri Lankan national.

    The search and rescue of Indian and Omani assets is being undertaken in challenging weather conditions as the area is experiencing rough seas and strong winds. The Indian Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I is also assisting in the search for survivors, the Indian Navy stated. The Indian Embassy in Oman has said it is in constant touch with the Omani authorities.

    Giving the latest update on the rescue effort, the Indian Embassy in Oman also posted on X, “Embassy is coordinating SAR operations with Omani authorities and the Indian Navy for MT Prestige Falcon, a Comoros-flagged vessel that capsized off the coast of Oman on July 15th.”

    “Nine crew including 8 Indians have been rescued today by INS Teg. The search for the remaining survivors continues,” it added. (ANI)

     The chief of Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has confirmed that rescue and search teams have identified President Ebrahim Raisi’s crashed chopper. The chopper also had Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdollahian and seven others on board.

    After a search operation lasting several hours, the emergency services were still around 2 kilometres away from the site and had identified the helicopter, head of IRCS, Pir-Hossein Kolivand, said on state television on Monday morning.

    Without giving further detail, Kolivand said that “the condition is not good.”

    “73 rescue teams are present in the search area of the helicopter in Tawal village with advanced and specialised equipment,” he added.

    However, there are no signs of survivors, as per reports.

    Rescue workers in Iran continued their search on ground on Sunday for the helicopter carrying nine people including the Iranian President and Foreign Minister, after it went missing in the mountainous terrain, state media reported.

    A total of 65 rescue teams, including those from the Iranian armed forces, had been deployed to East Azerbaijan Province in Iran’s northwest, where the helicopter has been located.

    Rajeswari told media that she pulled up the friend of Udhayakumar for not rushing the injured man to the hospital…reports Asian Lite News.

    A woman officer of the Chennai police, E. Rajeswari rescued a man from underneath a tree that fell upon him at T.P. Chatram area.

    The woman police officer told media that she received a call from the control room stating that a man had been killed as a tree fell upon him.

    “I received a call that a tree fell on him at the cemetery in T.P. Chatram, and my team and I reached the spot immediately. On close inspection, I found that he was unconscious but alive,” she said.

    The man, Udhayakumar, 28, was working at the T.P. Cemetry and his friend informed the control room that he had died after the tree fell upon him.

    Rajeswari told media that she pulled up the friend of Udhayakumar for not rushing the injured man to the hospital.

    The inspector also said that the duo had drunk the previous night and the friend did not bother to take Udhayakumar to the hospital. The video of her carrying Udhayakumar on her shoulders went viral.

    She immediately took an autorickshaw and sent Udhayakumar along with his friend to the nearby general hospital.

    The injured person is out of danger and doctors said that he suffered a concussion.

    Kamal Haasan hails woman cop

    Actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Thursday congratulated a woman police officer who saved an unconscious man by carrying him on her shoulders to an autorickshaw and rushing him to hospital.

    The actor took to Twitter to congratulate police inspector E. Rajeswari, who carried a 28-year-old-man on her shoulders in a bid to rush him to a hospital after realising that he was only unconscious and not dead as presumed by other bystanders.

    Kamal Haasan said, “The duty conscious nature of inspector Rajeshwari, who is seen running even as she carries an unconscious man in a bid to save his life, is astounding. Her courage and service are praiseworthy. My whole hearted congratulations to this role model of an officer.”
