The Indian Navy and the Royal Australian Navy displayed a high degree of cooperation during a Maritime Partnership Exercise in the Bay of Bengal region on November 2-3.

The HMAS Adelaide and HMAS Anzac of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the INS Jalashwa and INS Kavaratti of the Indian Navy, together with their embarked helicopters, participated in the exercise.

The exercises included tactical manoeuvres, helicopter landings and amphibious operations, which signified the high degree of interoperability between IN and RAN, India’s Ministry of Defence said on Saturday.

Prior to this, the RAN ships HMAS Adelaide and HMAS Anzac visited Visakhapatnam from October 30 to November 1 as part of Australia’s Indo-Pacific Endeavor 2022 (IPE 22). The Eastern Naval Command welcomed the Australian Defense Forces.

Additionally, along with the Eastern Fleet ships of the Indian Navy, soldiers from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force also took part in several joint activities.

The harbour phase featured a wide range of professional interactions including experience sharing, joint planning activities and friendly sports exchanges.

The successful completion of the exercise marks another milestone in the growing India-Australia military interactions, said India’s Ministry of Defence.

Australia and India have maintained a steady partnership in the area of defense, building on a long history of collaboration. The Australia-India defense relationship now spans almost every major military function, reflecting the growing interoperability and strategic partnership between the two defence forces.
