Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav held a telephonic conversation with US Special Presidential envoy for Climate John Kerry on Monday and discussed a wide range of issues including India’s ambitious climate action targets announced during COP26 in Glasgow in the UK last year.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Environment on Tuesday, during the telephonic conversation, both leaders agreed to take forward the India-US Climate Action and Finance Mobilization Dialogue (CAFMD) through the four identified pillars: Climate Ambition, Finance Mobilization, Adaptation and Resilience and Forestry.

As per the statement, Bhupendra Yadav highlighted the importance and need to focus on L I FE (Lifestyle For Environment)—the one word campaign championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during COP26 in Glasgow.

The two leaders also discussed the upcoming meeting of the Major Economies Forum (MEF), the Ministry said.

The US Special Presidential envoy is likely to visit India this month to discuss a way forward to start negotiations on India-US Climate Action and Finance Mobilization Dialogue.

India and the US had jointly launched the CAFMD in September last year. The CAFMD is one of the two tracks of India-US Climate and Clean Energy Agenda 2030 partnership launched at the Leaders’ Summit on Climate in April 2021.

The US Special Presidential envoy for Climate had earlier maintained that the US would assist India in attracting fiancé and technology to achieve its 450 GW renewable energy target for 2030.
