China has declared its backing for the inclusion of the African Union (AU) in the G20, becoming the first country to explicitly endorse this move. This support follows India’s recent endorsement of the African Union’s full membership in the Group of 20 major economies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the necessity for comprehensive representation and recognition of all voices in shaping the planet’s future.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning confirmed this endorsement during a media briefing, stating that China is the first nation to overtly express support for the AU’s G20 membership. President Xi Jinping reiterated this stance during the China-Africa leaders dialogue, highlighting the active backing for the AU’s full participation in the G20.

Ning underscored the significant partnership between China and the AU in constructing a shared future that upholds international equity and justice. She also stressed China’s encouragement for the AU to assume a more prominent role in global governance.
