Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari has approved an outlay of Rs. 1742.11 crore for the construction of the 4-lane N. Kawnpui (N.Mualvum) – Sairang section on NH-6, situated along the Silchar –Valrengte – Sairang road in the Aizawl and Kolasib districts in Mizoram.
In a social media post, the minister said this 24.41 km project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode as part of National Highway (Original) – North East (NH(O)-NE) project.
Gadkari said the envisioned road infrastructure aims to facilitate uninterrupted traffic flow circumventing interference from local traffic in developed areas. This initiative seeks to alleviate congestion in the urban zones, thereby augmenting road safety within these built-up areas.
The minister said the strategic project also endeavors to sidestep heavily populated areas, diminish congestion, and heighten road safety within the city of Aizawl. Additionally, it aspires to curtail the length of the existing National Highway by 25 kilometers, from Vairengte to Sairang, he added.
Meanwhile, Gadkari also sanctioned Rs 382.10 crore for the construction of a new 2-lane highway with paved shoulders connecting Majuli and Jorhat on the recently designated NH 715K in Assam.
A flyover on NH-715, complete with its approaches and service roads, is included in the project, spanning a total length of 20.5 kilometers.
Gadkari said in a social media post this imitative aims to establish direct road connectivity between Jorhat and Majuli. He pointed out that presently residents rely on river ferries across the Brahmaputra, posing safety concerns, especially during periods of high flooding.
Gadkari said the development of approach roads and the Majuli bridge will ensure continuous connectivity, significantly improving the socio-economic conditions of the local population and promoting tourism.
This strategic infrastructure investment is poised to reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs for road users, he added.
Meanwhile, tram-like services will soon run between Jaipur and Delhi, which will have the best of facilities and the fare will also be less as three buses will be connected like train coaches, according to Gadkari.
Gadkari said he had gone to Prague, the capital of Czechoslovakia, some time ago where there was a cable above the road on which electric bus was running.
“Electric cables will be laid on the road like a railway track. After this, an electric bus will be run by connecting three buses like a coach. This service will have facilities like a plane. There will be a category like business class where tea and snacks will also be available.
“Its fare will be 30 per cent less than the diesel buses running on the roads. The special thing is that it will soon be started from Jaipur. Currently, an electric bus is being operated between Delhi and Jaipur,” Gadkari said.
During the programme, Gadkari gifted projects worth Rs 2,500 crore to Rajasthan which included construction of the six-lane Chittorgarh-Udaipur road, among others.
