India is not just empowering its citizens with digital innovations but is also leading the charge in creating solutions that have the potential to transform global health and development, according to Bill Gates, the Chair and Board Member of the Gates Foundation.
At a global forum hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Gates Foundation and the Women’s Collective Forum in New Delhi, Gates applauded India’s leadership in innovation, health, and sustainability. The forum brought together global industry leaders, policymakers, and investors to discuss how India can drive scalable, sustainable, and technology-driven solutions to address global challenges.
Speaking at the event, Gates emphasized India’s role in shaping the future through its contributions to affordable healthcare, AI-powered diagnostics, and digital public infrastructure. He highlighted the significance of India’s advancements in building an inclusive digital ecosystem and its growing role in the global health and development landscape.
“India is a leader in pioneering affordable health solutions, and this is increasingly becoming a model for the rest of the world. The solutions you are creating here in India are transformative and scalable, offering tremendous potential not just for the nation but for other developing economies as well,” Gates remarked. He reiterated that scaling India’s innovative solutions globally will help address some of the world’s most pressing challenges, particularly in emerging economies.
Gates also pointed to India’s strides in the digital sector, particularly how its technological breakthroughs and inclusive economic growth are setting benchmarks for the rest of the world. He referred to India’s work in affordable healthcare and AI-powered diagnostics as an example of how technology can be harnessed to improve lives globally. He also acknowledged the country’s progress in creating digital public infrastructure, which, according to Gates, is not only empowering citizens but also creating the foundation for sustainable development.
The Gates Foundation’s Chair reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Indian innovators, policymakers, and entrepreneurs to scale these breakthroughs globally. He emphasized that these advancements in AI, healthcare, and sustainable development would not only help India but would also provide a blueprint for other nations looking to tackle similar challenges.
Smriti Irani, Chairperson of the Alliance for Global Good Gender Equity and Equality, also commended the work of the Gates Foundation and Bill Gates. She praised their investment in social innovation, which she described as a transformative force capable of reshaping societies. She highlighted the role of India in addressing global challenges like health, nutrition, and food security, with low-cost, tech-enabled solutions.
Meanwhile, Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of CII, underscored India’s pioneering role in digital public infrastructure, describing it as a model for the Global South. He noted that successful initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat health program and AI-powered agricultural solutions demonstrate how policy and technology, when aligned, can create scalable and sustainable solutions that serve as global benchmarks.
Sanjiv Puri, President of CII, further emphasized that India’s approach to technology-driven development is creating tangible results that can serve as a global reference point. “When policy and technology come together effectively, it creates a platform for lasting change,” Puri said.
In closing, Gates reiterated his belief that India’s innovations are not just solving problems for the nation but are actively contributing to global efforts in improving healthcare, sustainability, and economic growth.
