India retains spot on UN Honour Roll for timely payments

India has once again made it to the United Nations’ ‘Honour Roll’ for timely payment of its regular budget assessments, reaffirming its commitment to the UN’s financial stability.

The Permanent Mission of India in New York announced on Tuesday that India has once again been included in the ‘Honour Roll’ of the United Nations (UN) for paying its regular budget assessments in full within the 30-day period specified in the Financial Regulations of the UN.

In a statement, the Mission said, “India yet again featured in the ‘Honor Roll’ of UN as one of the countries that have paid their regular budget assessments in full within the 30 day period specified in Financial Regulation 3.5 of the UN. The Honour Roll includes select Member States that have successfully fulfilled their financial commitment to the UN within 30 days of receiving a payment note.”

The UN General Assembly approves UN’s Regular Budget in December each year. Each Member State is then assessed based on the Scale of Assessment approved by the General Assembly, and corresponding payment notes are issued by the UN in early January.

The statement emphasized that India has consistently figured on the UN’s Honour Roll.

“India’s promptness in making contributions to the UN demonstrates its unwavering support to the principles and purposes enshrined in the UN Charter.” – Permanent Mission of India, New York

“India’s promptness in making contributions to the UN demonstrates its unwavering support to the principles and purposes enshrined in the UN Charter and commitment to upholding the financial stability and operational effectiveness of the UN”, the statement highlighted adding, this further reaffirms India’s role as a responsible member of the UN.

Last year, the Government of India had made a significant contribution of USD 12 million to the India-UN Development Partnership Fund, further solidifying its commitment to global development initiatives. The cheque was officially handed over by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, to the UNDP Administrator, Achim Steiner.

Established in June 2017 with an initial capital of USD 1 million, the Fund has grown into a robust USD 150 million financing mechanism. It supports demand-driven projects in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Members of the Commonwealth of Nations, Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and other partner nations across the Global South.

Embodying the Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—‘The World Is One Family’—India continues to extend its support and partnership through the India-UN Fund. This initiative aids capacity-building efforts and development projects in multiple nations, fostering sustainable progress worldwide.

With this latest contribution, India’s total funding to the India-UN Development Partnership Fund has now surpassed USD 87 million, inclusive of earned interest. The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) serves as the Fund Manager and Secretariat.

To date, the Fund has successfully overseen 85 projects across 57 countries, reinforcing India’s leadership in global developmental cooperation. The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations remains committed to supporting the aspirations and needs of developing nations under the South-South Cooperation framework.
