The grand Maha Kumbh organised by the Uttar Pradesh government is now capturing global attention. As part of this, a 21-member delegation from 10 countries will take a sacred dip at the Sangam on Thursday.

The delegation, invited by the External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, arrived on Wednesday. Arrangements for the delegation’s stay have been made at the Tent City in Arail, developed by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation.

On Wednesday, the delegation toured the Mahakumbh Mela area. A heritage walk scheduled from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM allowed members to explore the cultural and historical heritage of Prayagraj. In the evening, dinner and rest arrangements were made at the Tent City.

On Thursday, January 16, the international delegation will take a holy dip at Triveni Sangam. After breakfast, they will enjoy an aerial view of the Mahakumbh area via helicopter. The tour will end at 1:30 PM, after which the delegation will head to the airport.

The international delegation includes representatives from Fiji, Finland, Guyana, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Thousands of devotees took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam here on Thursday morning, the fourth day of the 45-day-long Maha Kumbh.

Over six crore devotees have participated in the world’s biggest religious congregation; over 3.5 crore on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on January 14. Meanwhile, given the massive influx of pilgrims, the Prayagraj administration has established an AI-based computerized lost and found centre.

Steve Jobs’s wife falls ill

Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, fell ill during her visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. Spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri, in whose camp she is staying, revealed that Powell Jobs developed allergies due to the crowded and unfamiliar environment.

“She is in my ‘shivir’ (camp). She has never been to such a crowded place and has developed some allergies. She is very simple and is here to experience our tradition,” said Swami Kailashanand on Tuesday.

Despite her illness, Laurene Powell Jobs is determined to take part in the ritual of taking a holy dip at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. Swami Kailashanand added that she is resting in his camp to recover before participating in the ritual.

Powell Jobs reached Swami Kailashanand Giri Ji Maharaj’s Ashram in Prayagraj on Sunday evening to experience the Maha Kumbh, a rare celestial event that is occurring after 144 years. The spiritual gathering attracts millions of devotees from across the world, making it one of the largest religious festivals.

On Monday, the 61-year-old American businesswoman was seen participating in the festivities, wearing an orange-coloured dupatta shawl over her head at the Maha Kumbh.

She was recently given the Hindu name of ‘Kamala’ by the Niranjani Akhara, a revered organisation of saints. Before arriving in Prayagraj, she visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi on January 11.

At the temple in Varanasi, the 61-year-old philanthropist worshipped Baba Kashi Vishwanath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and performed ‘jalabhishek’ (offering water to a deity), praying for the successful conduct of the Maha Kumbh.
