Jyotika has spoken firmly about one aspect of film industry practice where she refuses to compromise, saying she draws a clear line when it comes to certain casting patterns and creative choices…reports Asian Lite News Desk
The actress, who is gearing up for her upcoming streaming film System, shared her views during a promotional conversation with co-star Sonakshi Sinha. While both actors discussed evolving storytelling in cinema, Jyotika highlighted that she is open to diverse narratives but has reservations when certain formulas become excessive or repetitive.
She specifically referred to the tendency in mainstream cinema to cast one male lead opposite multiple female characters, stating that such patterns can create unnecessary perceptions among audiences. Without rejecting the idea of varied storytelling, she stressed that there is a limit to how far such creative choices should be stretched.
“For me, it works like Sonakshi said. But sometimes when the line over-crosses, that’s when I have a problem,” she said. “I feel if you take one hero with four heroines, then people start thinking. So crossing it too much is where I feel it can go wrong.”
She added that filmmakers must be mindful of balance while telling stories. According to her, cinema should continue to explore different subjects and narratives, but not in ways that reinforce unhelpful stereotypes or repetitive structures.
“Somewhere you have to draw a line. But otherwise, yeah, different subjects and different stories have to be told,” she said.
Jyotika also spoke about her role in System, where she plays a stenographer. She revealed that several sequences were designed in a way where the physical typing action was not always fully shown on camera, with focus instead placed on performance and emotion.
“Most of the time what you see is not what is done,” she said, explaining that certain technical elements like keyboard framing were adjusted during shooting to prioritise acting over mechanical accuracy.
She added that the preparation for the role was not extensive in terms of technical skill. Instead, emphasis was placed on emotional expression, eye movement and maintaining performance consistency across scenes involving digital work environments.
