Bangladesh recorded 29 new confirmed measles cases and 1,165 suspected cases in the 24 hours to 8am on Thursday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest figures, covering the period from 8am on September 9 to 8am on September 10, also showed seven suspected measles deaths during the same 24-hour period. No new confirmed measles deaths were reported.
Since March 15, Bangladesh has recorded 168,745 suspected measles cases and 19,933 confirmed cases, the DGHS said in its latest health bulletin. The cumulative number of suspected measles deaths stands at 909, while 100 deaths have been confirmed as measles-related.
A regional breakdown showed Dhaka reporting the highest number of new suspected cases, with 421 cases in the latest 24-hour period, followed by Chattogram with 262, Sylhet with 153 and Barishal with 116.
Dhaka also recorded three suspected measles deaths in the latest 24 hours, while two suspected deaths were reported in the capital as the district with the highest number of suspected deaths.
The health authorities said 1,112 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals during the latest 24-hour period, while 1,069 patients were discharged.
Since March 15, a total of 148,505 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals, with 142,888 discharged, according to the DGHS data.
The government has also intensified its measles-rubella vaccination campaign. Nationally, 19.76 million vaccine doseshad been administered against a target of about 18.02 million, giving an overall reported coverage of 109.7%.
Among the divisions, Mymensingh recorded the highest coverage at 115%, followed by Chattogram at 112.6% and Dhaka at 110.4%.
In city corporations, vaccination coverage also exceeded targets in most areas. Gazipur recorded the highest coverage at 115.8%, followed by Rajshahi at 114.7% and Dhaka North at 112.4%. Overall coverage across the listed city corporations stood at 108.7%.
The figures were issued by the DGHS’s Health Emergency Operations Centre and Control Room in its September 10 health bulletin.
