BrahMos Demand Grows as Russia Explores Induction

BrahMos Aerospace chief Jaiteerth Joshi said Russia is keen to induct the supersonic cruise missile and is discussing ways to expand production capacity….reports Asian Lite news Desk

Russia is keen to induct the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile into its armed forces and discussions are underway to expand production capacity to meet future requirements, BrahMos Aerospace Chief Jaiteerth Joshi said on Thursday.

Speaking after the flagging off of the 100th indigenous booster manufactured by Solar Industries India Ltd in Nagpur, Joshi said Moscow had expressed interest in acquiring additional BrahMos missiles despite already having established industrial partners linked to the joint India-Russia programme.

“Government of Russia is keen on taking it, but they have their own established industry partners. However, they want to increase the requirement as per the present scenario. We are in talks with them,” Joshi told ANI.

He indicated that Indian industry could play a role in augmenting Russia’s existing production capacity if demand rises.

“They have the facility, but that facility may not be enough. To augment that, we will work hand in hand and we will supply it from India,” he said.

The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM), has emerged as one of India’s flagship defence products and a key export prospect.

Joshi said the missile’s growing international reputation is the result of more than two decades of development, testing and operational deployment.

He also highlighted what he described as the missile’s first combat validation during Operation Sindoor, saying the successful operational use had boosted confidence in the weapon system both in India and abroad.

“Generally, missiles are tested on the ground or through simulated scenarios. During Operation Sindoor, a live test was carried out and it was a success. It is a significant achievement because it demonstrated the missile’s capabilities in an actual operational environment,” he said.

The comments come as India continues to expand its defence exports and promote indigenous military manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Joshi said export negotiations with Vietnam are now in the final stages, with only a few clearances remaining before the deal can be concluded. He added that discussions are also progressing with several other countries across different regions.

The BrahMos missile has attracted growing international interest due to its speed, precision and operational track record. It is currently among India’s most sought-after defence export products and is seen as a key component of New Delhi’s efforts to strengthen its position in the global defence market.

The milestone event in Nagpur, marking the production of the 100th indigenous booster by Solar Industries India Ltd, was also viewed as a significant step in enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities and supporting the future expansion of the BrahMos programme.Russia Keen to Induct BrahMos, Talks Underway: Chief
