Hamas Urges ‘Peace Board’ to Act on Gaza

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem urged the board, due to meet later this week, to turn its stated principles into concrete action to secure peace in Gaza and halt what he described as Israeli violations….reports Asian Lite News

Hamas on Tuesday urged the newly formed “Board of Peace” to intervene and halt what it described as ongoing Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire, warning that Israel could use the body’s upcoming meeting as a cover to continue its military campaign, according to China’s state news agency Xinhua.

In a televised statement cited by Xinhua, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem called on the board — set to convene later this week — to translate its declared principles into concrete steps to achieve peace in Gaza and stop what he alleged were Israeli violations.

Qassem said developments over the past four months indicate that Israel “has not stopped the war of genocide but has changed its tools and forms”, claiming that “killing, displacement, blockade and starvation” are ongoing in the enclave.

He also urged the board to facilitate the entry of a committee tasked with administering Gaza in order to begin reconstruction efforts. In addition, he demanded a full lifting of the blockade and the complete reopening of border crossings, rejecting what he described as a “limited partial reopening” of the Rafah crossing, where he alleged travellers face serious violations.

In January, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the creation of the Board of Peace for Gaza, a body intended to oversee the second phase of a ceasefire agreement focused on the enclave’s demilitarisation and reconstruction, Xinhua reported.

However, the organisation’s founding charter makes no specific reference to Gaza, instead outlining a broader U.S.-led initiative aimed at resolving conflicts worldwide — a role traditionally associated with the United Nations. Trump formally launched the board on 22 January during a charter-signing ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Several major global powers and traditional U.S. allies have declined to join, according to Xinhua.
