India and Belgium have discussed ways to expand cooperation across trade, investment, technology, logistics and workforce mobility as both countries seek to strengthen economic ties.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held talks with David Clarinval, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Employment, Economy, and Agriculture of Belgium, during his engagements in Brussels on Tuesday.
Goyal described the meeting as productive and said both sides exchanged views on opportunities to deepen bilateral economic cooperation.

“We also exchanged views on the transformative potential of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement and reaffirmed our shared commitment to further strengthening economic ties for the mutual benefit of our businesses and people,” Goyal said in a post on X.
The discussions come as India and the European Union continue efforts to expand economic engagement through trade, investment and technology partnerships.
During his Brussels visit, Goyal also met EU Commissioner for Climate, Net-Zero and Clean Growth Wopke Hoekstra to discuss cooperation in clean energy and sustainable industrial development.
“Our discussions focused on expanding collaboration in renewable energy, green hydrogen, clean technologies, innovation, investments and resilient value chains to support our shared net-zero ambitions,” Goyal said.
The talks highlighted areas where India and the EU can work together on climate action, renewable energy expansion and the development of future-focused technologies.
Earlier in the day, Goyal met Thomas Colinet, Managing Director, and Bruno Lete, Director of Public Affairs at Thales Belgium.
Goyal appreciated the company’s long-standing presence in India, including manufacturing operations for global markets, technology partnerships and skill development initiatives.
He said discussions also focused on opportunities to further strengthen collaboration and encouraged the company to expand its manufacturing footprint in India in line with the “Make in India, Make for the World” vision.
Goyal also held discussions with Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism of Spain, exploring opportunities to strengthen India-Spain cooperation in trade, investment, manufacturing, innovation, tourism and other emerging sectors.
“We also exchanged views on the India-EU FTA and reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening industrial partnerships, building resilient supply chains and deepening economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations,” Goyal said.
The series of meetings underline India’s efforts to strengthen economic partnerships with European countries while promoting investment, industrial cooperation, innovation and sustainable growth.
