New Delhi condemns reported drone strike on Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. UAE says no injuries or radiation risks reported after fire at facility….reports Asian Lite News
India on Sunday expressed deep concern over the reported drone strike targeting the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, calling the attack “unacceptable” and warning that such incidents risk escalating tensions in an already volatile region.
In a strongly worded statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) urged all parties to avoid further provocation and return to diplomacy.
“India is deeply concerned at the attack targeting the Barakah nuclear facility in the UAE. Such actions are unacceptable and represent a dangerous escalation. We urgently call for restraint and a return to dialogue and diplomacy,” the MEA said.
The reaction from New Delhi came after UAE authorities confirmed that a fire broke out at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region following what was described as a drone strike.
According to a statement posted by the Abu Dhabi media office on X, emergency services responded to “a fire incident that broke out in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region, caused by a drone strike”.
Authorities said no injuries were reported and stressed that there was no impact on radiological safety or the functioning of the facility.
“The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation confirmed that the fire did not affect the safety of the power plant or the readiness of its essential systems, and that all units are operating as normal,” the statement added.
Officials also said all precautionary measures had been taken and urged the public to rely only on official information and avoid spreading rumours or unverified claims.
The UAE authorities did not identify who was responsible for the strike or provide details regarding the origin of the drone involved in the incident.
The reported attack has heightened concerns over the safety of critical infrastructure in the Gulf region, particularly nuclear facilities, which are governed by strict international safety standards.
The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant is the Arab world’s first operational nuclear energy facility and forms a major part of the UAE’s long term energy diversification strategy. Located in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Region, the plant is seen as a key strategic asset for the country.
Security analysts have warned that attacks on nuclear linked infrastructure carry serious regional and global implications, even when there is no direct impact on reactor operations or radiation levels.
India’s statement reflects growing international anxiety over the increasing use of drones and missiles against civilian and strategic infrastructure across West Asia amid rising geopolitical tensions.
Earlier this month, the UAE reported that several missiles and drones launched from Iran had targeted multiple areas of the country, underscoring concerns over the widening regional security threat.
New Delhi has consistently called for de escalation and diplomatic engagement in regional conflicts, while also maintaining close strategic and economic ties with Gulf nations, including the UAE.
