India, Kazakhstan Step Up Strategic Engagement

India and Kazakhstan reviewed bilateral ties and pledged closer cooperation to turn their strategic partnership into tangible outcomes…reports Asian Lite News Desk

India and Kazakhstan on Wednesday reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to work more closely to translate their strategic partnership into tangible outcomes.

The discussions took place during a meeting between India’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Y K Sailas Thangal, and Kazakhstan’s newly appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Issagaliyev.

The Indian Embassy in Kazakhstan said the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation.

“Amb Y.K. Sailas Thangal had a warm and productive meeting with the newly appointed Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan. The two sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to working even more closely to translate the strong India–Kazakhstan partnership into tangible outcomes,” the embassy posted on X.

“They discussed ways to seize emerging opportunities, deepen mutual understanding, and further strengthen a forward-looking partnership between India and Kazakhstan,” it added.

The meeting followed talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi last month.

During their meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Kazakhstan.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Modi recalled India’s ancient civilisational linkages with Kazakhstan and expressed satisfaction over the steady development of bilateral relations in recent years.

The two leaders reviewed cooperation across several areas, including political relations, trade, defence and security, connectivity, energy, critical minerals, emerging technologies, the creative economy and people-to-people ties.

“The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation in a range of fields, including political, trade, defence and security, connectivity, energy, critical minerals, emerging technologies, creative economy, and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged perspectives on regional and international developments,” the MEA stated.

The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership for the mutual benefit of their people and for peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region.

“The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, for the mutual benefit of their people, as well as for peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region,” it added.

Tokayev visited New Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, held on September 12 and 13. During his visit, he also attended a gala dinner hosted by Modi for visiting leaders at Bharat Mandapam on September 12.

The latest India-Kazakhstan engagement highlights the continued focus by both sides on expanding their strategic relationship and identifying new areas for cooperation.

The two countries have also been seeking to build on existing cooperation while exploring opportunities in emerging sectors and strengthening links between their people.

Wednesday’s meeting between the two senior officials provided another opportunity to advance discussions on bilateral relations and identify areas where closer engagement could deliver practical results.
