Iran lists three conditions to end war

The fighting has continued to escalate across West Asia, with fresh strikes, diplomatic tensions and disruptions to global oil supplies …reports Asian Lite News

Iran has set out three conditions for ending the conflict with Israel and the United States as the war entered its thirteenth day.

In a post on X, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said the country remained committed to peace but insisted that an end to hostilities required recognition of Iran’s rights, reparations for damages, and international guarantees against further attacks.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has said the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States can only end if Tehran’s rights are recognised, reparations are paid and firm international guarantees are provided to prevent further aggression.

Taking to X, Pezeshkian said he had spoken with the leaders of Russia and Pakistan and reiterated Iran’s commitment to regional peace. He said the only way to end the war that had been “ignited by the Zionist regime & US” was through three conditions.

“Talking to leaders of Russia and Pakistan, I reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace in the region. The only way to end this war–ignited by the Zionist regime and US–is recognizing Iran’s legitimate rights, payment of reparations, and firm int’l guarantees against future aggression,” he wrote.

The conflict began after the United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran on February 28. The attacks resulted in the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, several top military commanders and civilians.

In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced a retaliatory operation targeting sites in Israel.

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir-Saeid Iravani told the UN that civilian casualties had risen sharply since the start of the military operations.

“Since February 28, more than 1,348 civilians, including women and children, have died and more than 17,000 have been injured as a result of the ongoing military operations by the United States and the Israeli regime,” the Iranian envoy said.

Meanwhile, the 15-member UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Wednesday condemning what it described as “egregious” attacks by Iran on Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan. The resolution demanded an immediate halt to hostilities by Tehran and warned against threats to close the Strait of Hormuz.

India joined more than 130 countries in co-sponsoring the Bahrain-led resolution, which was adopted by a vote of 13-0. Permanent members China and Russia abstained.

The resolution condemned in the “strongest terms” Iran’s attacks on the territories of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, stating that such actions constituted a breach of international law and posed a serious threat to international peace and security.

Regional tensions also extended to maritime routes. Two oil tankers were attacked off the Iraqi coast within Iraq’s territorial waters, according to Saad Maan, head of Iraq’s Security Media Cell.

“Thirty-eight crewmembers were evacuated. One of them died,” he said, condemning the incident as a violation of the country’s sovereignty.

The IRGC later announced the launch of the 40th wave of Operation “True Promise-4”, targeting US bases in the region as well as locations in Tel Aviv, the occupied territories and Haifa, according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

The operation reportedly involved missiles including “Ghadr”, “Emad”, “Kheybar Shekan” and “Fattah”, which were fired at targets inside Israel and at US bases across the region.

State broadcaster Press TV also released footage from the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz showing vessels under surveillance by Iranian forces. According to the broadcaster, the IRGC claimed to have struck 14 oil tankers, including two American vessels.

The escalating hostilities have disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and affected oil supplies, contributing to a rise in global crude prices.

Separately, The New York Times reported that Iranian retaliatory strikes had damaged at least 17 US military and other facilities across West Asia. The report cited satellite imagery, social media videos, statements by US officials and Iranian state media reports.
