England fast bowlers Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue have made significant gains in the latest ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings following their starring roles in England’s commanding 2-0 lead over Pakistan.
Robinson, named Player of the Match in both Tests, climbed six places to fifth after another dominant display at Lord’s. The right-arm pacer took four wickets in each innings to finish with match figures of eight for 35, leaving him just one spot short of his career-best ranking of fourth.
The latest jump means Robinson has gained 22 places since the start of the series.
Tongue also reached a career-best ranking, rising four places to 13th after taking five wickets in the match. He has climbed 20 spots during the series.
Pakistan’s bowlers made gains despite the team’s defeat. Mohammad Abbas moved up 10 places to joint-15th after taking nine wickets in the match, while Mohammad Ali rose 11 spots to 81st following his five-wicket haul.
Among batters, Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel jumped 15 places to 18th after scoring 97 in the second innings, becoming the country’s second-highest ranked Test batter behind captain Babar Azam. Babar slipped five places to 15th.
England’s Jordan Cox rose six places to 76th, while Dan Lawrence gained 10 spots to reach 92nd.
The rankings update also reflected performances from the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. Sri Lanka’s Sonal Dinusha climbed to a career-best 25th after scoring centuries in both innings.
India’s Devdutt Padikkal rose five places to a career-best 54th after scoring 117, while Dhruv Jurel jumped from 83rd to 65th following an unbeaten 115.
Sri Lanka’s Pasindu Sooriyabandara surged 170 places to 74th after scores of 80 and 92 in just his second Test, while Kamindu Mendis returned to the top 10.
Among bowlers, Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando rose to 11th, India spinner Manav Suthar climbed to 44th and Mohammed Siraj moved up to 17th.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s Dewald Brevis reached a career-best fourth in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings after a string of impressive performances in the ongoing tri-series in Windhoek.
