Scott Mills leaves BBC Radio 2 amid historic relationship allegations, ending decades-long broadcasting career as temporary coverage announced while details remain undisclosed, reports Asian Lite Newsdesk
The BBC has confirmed that Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the corporation, following allegations regarding a historic personal relationship. No further details have been provided by the broadcaster, which issued a brief statement saying, “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”
Mills, 53, had taken over the Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball in January 2025. His final broadcast aired on Tuesday 24 March at 09:30 GMT, concluding with the brief farewell, “Back tomorrow.” The following morning, DJ Gary Davies appeared on the show, announcing that he would cover for Mills.
News of the departure was first reported by the Mirror, with BBC News and external outlets reaching out to Mills for comment. According to reports, the allegations relate to a historic relationship, though no further specifics have been publicly disclosed.
In an internal email sent to BBC staff, Lorna Clarke, the director of music, acknowledged the shock the announcement may cause. “I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock, not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV,” she wrote. Clarke added that updates on the breakfast show would follow but declined to provide further details at this time.
At midday, Jeremy Vine opened his Radio 2 show by expressing surprise at the news, saying he had “no further information” regarding the circumstances of Mills’ departure.
Mills has been a prominent figure on BBC radio and television for over 25 years, ranking as the broadcaster’s 11th highest-paid star. He joined Radio 2’s weekday schedule in 2022, taking over Steve Wright’s afternoon slot, and in 2025 provided TV commentary for the Eurovision semi-finals alongside Rylan Clark-Neal on BBC One. He was also last seen in a Comic Relief skit for Traitors.
Prior to his tenure at Radio 2, Mills had a long-standing career at Radio 1, joining in 1998 and hosting the Official Chart between 2018 and 2022, replacing Greg James. He also hosted a weekend show on BBC Radio 5 Live and appeared on the television show Strictly Come Dancing in 2014.
