Former US Vice President Kamala Harris launched a blistering critique of President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office, accusing him of abandoning American ideals and steering the country into “the greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history.”
Speaking at a packed event hosted by Emerge America in her hometown of San Francisco, Harris broke months of relative silence since her defeat in the 2024 election. In her most forceful speech since conceding to Trump, she said the administration was “punishing truth-tellers, rewarding loyalists, and cashing in on power.”
“Instead of an administration working to advance America’s highest ideals, we are witnessing the wholesale abandonment of those ideals,” Harris said. “This is a narrow, self-serving vision of leadership that leaves everyone else to fend for themselves.”
Her 15-minute address, laced with both criticism and calls for resilience, came just one day after President Trump held a rally to mark his first 100 days back in office. Harris warned that the confusion and despair many Democrats feel may only deepen in the coming months. “Things are probably going to get worse before they get better,” she said. “But don’t despair. Fear may be contagious—but so is courage.”

The event also served as a reunion of sorts for Harris and Emerge America, a political training group for Democratic women that supported her first run for office years ago. She ended her remarks with a message of unity and resistance: “You are not alone, and we are all in this together.”
