Dubai Smashes 1,000-Event Record

Over 1,000 events, record retail spending, millions of visitors and landmark festivals powered Dubai’s 2025 calendar, reinforcing its status as a global retail and entertainment capital….reports Asian Lite News

Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), has delivered a record-breaking year, staging more than 1,000 events across the city in 2025 and reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global capital of retail, entertainment and innovation.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in the emirate’s journey under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy over the next decade and further strengthen its global competitiveness as a destination for business and leisure.

Retail renaissance

A highlight of the year was the 30th anniversary of the Dubai Shopping Festival, which ran from 6 December 2024 to 12 January 2025. The 38-day celebration featured more than 125 events across 60 venues, alongside 619 concerts and entertainment experiences. Promotions spanned over 3,500 outlets and 850 brands across more than 100 malls.

The anniversary edition introduced new concepts such as DSF Nights, DSF Auto Season and Hatta x DSF, while awarding prizes worth AED50 million to over 1,100 winners. Twenty-three cars, AED21 million in cash and AED1.5 million in gold were among the headline giveaways, driving record footfall and consumer engagement.

Across 2025, DFRE’s retail campaigns achieved a 144 per cent average increase in spending. More than 1,300 brands across 4,000 outlets participated in citywide promotions. The Great Dubai Summer Sale and the Shop, Scan & Win initiative alone generated over AED150 million in sales, contributing to a 200 per cent surge in retail spending and high customer satisfaction levels.

Fitness, gaming and cultural impact

The ninth edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge attracted more than three million participants in November, encouraging residents and visitors to commit to 30 minutes of daily activity for 30 consecutive days. Dubai Run welcomed over 307,000 runners, while Dubai Ride saw 40,327 cyclists take part. New additions such as Dubai Yoga and growing participation in water sports and community events underlined the city’s ambition to become one of the world’s most active urban centres.

Meanwhile, the fourth Dubai Esports and Games Festival welcomed over 45,000 attendees across 17 days, with 775 companies and brands participating. The event reinforced Dubai’s aspirations under its Gaming 2033 vision, positioning the emirate as a regional hub for the global gaming and esports ecosystem.

The 28th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises delivered 66 days of shopping, dining and live entertainment from 27 June to 31 August. Featuring three curated retail seasons for the first time, the campaign recorded a 110 per cent increase in average consumer spending. More than 1,050 brands across 3,800 outlets participated, supported by 76 concerts and shows across 35 venues.

Business events and global recognition

Dubai’s gastronomy and business events sectors also posted strong gains. Restaurant initiatives, including Dubai Restaurant Week and themed culinary campaigns, engaged hundreds of venues and reinforced the city’s global food credentials, with two Dubai restaurants recognised among the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025.

On the business front, Dubai Business Events secured 504 successful bids for international conferences and congresses to be hosted through 2029, expected to attract more than 270,000 delegates. This 11 per cent year-on-year increase strengthens Dubai’s position as a leading global hub for meetings and incentives.

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of DFRE, described 2025 as a transformative year driven by visionary leadership and strong public-private collaboration. With preparations already under way for the tenth edition of Dubai Fitness Challenge in 2026 and further expansion of the Dubai Calendar, DFRE aims to build on this momentum and continue delivering world-class experiences that drive economic growth and enhance quality of life.
