Donald Trump has said that the US military is constructing a “massive complex” beneath a planned ballroom at the White House, describing it as part of a high security project featuring advanced protective measures and funded entirely by private donors.
Speaking on Sunday, Trump said the underground construction is already underway and forms part of a broader security focused design linked to the new ballroom. He noted that the facility is intended to host large scale events and visiting dignitaries, addressing long standing capacity constraints at the White House.
“The military is building a massive complex under the ballroom, and that’s under construction, and we’re doing very well,” Trump said.
He added that the ballroom will include reinforced security measures such as bulletproof glass and drone resistant roofing and ceilings, reflecting evolving modern threats. “Everything is drone proof and bulletproof, and unfortunately, we’re living in an age where that’s a good thing,” he said.

According to Fox News, the ballroom proposal was approved in February by the US Commission of Fine Arts, which fast tracked the roughly $400 million project following a unanimous vote. Previous administrations have often relied on temporary structures to accommodate large events, as the earlier East Wing dining facility had a capacity of around 200 seats.
