Keir Starmer has used his 2026 Easter message to highlight themes of hope, renewal and community resilience, while acknowledging the pressures facing families across the UK and beyond.
In a message marking the Christian festival of Easter, the Prime Minister praised the role of churches and faith groups in supporting communities, describing their work as central to strengthening society during challenging times.
He said Easter represents “hope, new life and renewal”, and pointed to the quiet, ongoing efforts of churches and Christian organisations that provide support to families, children and vulnerable individuals. Their contribution, he noted, reflects “the very heart of Christ’s example” through acts of service, compassion and unity.
Starmer’s message comes amid what he described as a period of “real anxiety” for many households, shaped by international conflicts, domestic pressures and wider uncertainty about the future. In such circumstances, he said, faith can provide reassurance and stability, offering people a sense of connection and hope even in difficult moments.
Highlighting the long-standing role of churches within local communities, the Prime Minister said they have historically helped tackle poverty, isolation and fear. He stressed that, at a time when divisions can emerge, there is a need to bring people together across faiths and backgrounds.
The government, he added, remains committed to working with faith organisations to build a more inclusive and resilient society. Initiatives such as Pride in Place and Best Start Family Hubs were cited as examples of collaboration aimed at strengthening neighbourhoods and improving support networks.
Starmer also paid tribute to volunteers and those working through churches and Christian charities, thanking them for their continued service to communities across the country.
Concluding his message, he extended his wishes to Christians in the UK and around the world, expressing hope that the Easter period would bring peace, renewal and a sense of optimism for the future.
