Fuel Prices Climb Again

Petrol and diesel prices have risen again across India, with rates increasing by an average of 90 paise per litre in major cities. The latest hike comes days after a Rs 3 per litre increase and amid continuing concerns over global oil supplies linked to tensions in West Asia…reports Asian Lite News

Fuel prices across India rose sharply on Tuesday, with petrol and diesel rates increased by an average of around 90 paise per litre in several major cities.

The latest increase marks the second upward revision in less than a week and comes amid rising global crude oil prices and concerns over energy supplies linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

In Delhi, petrol prices increased by 87 paise per litre, rising from Rs 97.77 to Rs 98.64. Diesel prices in the capital rose by 91 paise, taking the rate from Rs 90.67 to Rs 91.58 per litre.

Mumbai also witnessed a significant increase in fuel prices. Petrol prices rose by 91 paise to Rs 107.59 per litre, while diesel prices climbed by 94 paise to Rs 94.08 per litre.

In Chennai, petrol prices increased by 82 paise to Rs 104.49 per litre, while diesel prices rose by 86 paise to Rs 96.11 per litre.

Kolkata recorded one of the sharpest increases among the major metros. Petrol prices in the city rose by 96 paise to Rs 109.70 per litre, while diesel prices increased by 94 paise to Rs 96.07 per litre.

Fuel prices in Jaipur were also revised upwards. Petrol prices in the Rajasthan capital rose by 94 paise per litre to Rs 108.91, while diesel prices increased by 92 paise to Rs 94.15 per litre.

The increase follows an earlier nationwide fuel price revision on May 15, when the central government raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre each.

Following that increase, petrol prices in New Delhi rose from Rs 94.77 to Rs 97.77 per litre, while diesel prices increased from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67 per litre.

The recent hikes have come as governments and energy agencies across the world continue to monitor supply disruptions linked to the conflict in West Asia.

Concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime oil trade routes, have intensified following the ongoing tensions involving the US, Israel and Iran.

Brent crude oil prices have remained elevated since the conflict began on February 28 this year. Prices have been hovering above USD 100 per barrel amid uncertainty over future supply conditions and continuing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a long term ceasefire in the region.

Several West Asian countries affected by the widening conflict are major global suppliers of crude oil and petroleum products.

Despite concerns over global supply chains and rising international oil prices, India has maintained that there is no shortage of fuel in the country and that adequate energy supplies remain available.
