Rahul Gandhi hails nationwide protest

Rahul Gandhi has thanked protesters, Congress workers and INDIA Bloc leaders for joining demonstrations across the country. He described the protests as a united stand against what he called threats to the Constitution and democracy…reports Asian Lite News Desk

Rahul Gandhi has thanked thousands of people who took part in protests across India, praising their efforts to defend the Constitution and democracy and declaring that the public would not be intimidated.

The Congress leader expressed gratitude to INDIA Bloc leaders, party workers, activists and civil society organisations following demonstrations held across the country on Monday. He also thanked millions of people who expressed solidarity at 3pm.

In a post following the protests, Gandhi described the demonstrations as an important show of collective resistance against the government.

“Today was a very important day because we needed to show the government that the people of India are not going to be intimidated. You cannot beat us, threaten us, frighten us. We will not accept being bullied,” he said.

Gandhi also criticised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), questioning the absence of its members whom he accused of attacking young children two days earlier.

“I was wondering where the cowards of the RSS who were beating the young children day before yesterday were. Where were those people? Because I didn’t see them,” he remarked.

He challenged those he criticised to “wear your little scarves and come out” when people across India stood together. Gandhi described the RSS and the Prime Minister as “bullies”, accusing them of relying on power rather than confronting opposition openly.

The Congress leader stressed that the demonstrations represented a single, united movement rather than separate protests organised by different groups.

“It’s one protest, and it’s a protest where everybody is standing together. Every single person is going to stand against these killers of our Constitution, these killers of our democracy. And we’re not going to back down,” he declared.

Gandhi also acknowledged the contribution of civil society organisations, thanking them for supporting the movement. He said their participation was valued and welcomed as part of the wider effort to defend democratic principles.

He expressed pride in those who had taken to the streets, saying their participation reflected a shared commitment to the country’s constitutional framework and democratic institutions.

“I’m extremely proud of every single person who came out on the streets,” he said, adding that everyone had worked as a team.

The protests come amid continuing political tensions between the Congress-led opposition and the government. Opposition parties have presented their demonstrations as a collective effort to protect democratic values, while Gandhi’s remarks highlighted their determination to continue challenging what they view as attempts to undermine constitutional principles.

His message sought to underline unity among opposition groups, party workers, activists and members of civil society, portraying their participation as central to the campaign.

Gandhi’s comments also placed the focus on the role of ordinary citizens in political demonstrations, with the Congress leader praising those who had expressed support both on the streets and through other forms of solidarity.

The remarks reinforced the opposition’s call for a united response to what it describes as threats to democracy and the Constitution.
